Specimen collection, processing, and testing will aid in disease prevention and diagnosis as well as treatment monitoring. The goal of this program is to provide the necessary background in both the theory of phlebotomy and in the laboratory skills necessary to work in the field. The students will take away a comprehension of the anatomy of specimen collection, the correlation between test request and the corresponding tube, knowledge of pre-examination variables that may affect the quality of the specimen, and an understanding of various point of care tests. This two-part course, approved by the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Route 2), provides the knowledge and training necessary to earn national certification in the field."},"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://www.sunyocc.edu/programs/phlebotomist","ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Credential Status"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Awards of the credential are ongoing."}}}
