The apprenticeship preparation training has been granted direct entry by the New York State Department of Labor, allowing program graduates to bypass the traditional union apprenticeship application process and have a direct interview.  \nOpportunities Long Island is an 8 week, 240-hour training program.  The first 3 weeks of the training covers labor history, construction related math, OSHA 30 and Site Safety Training, and an introduction to hand and power tools. The remaining 5 weeks of training are held at the various different union training centers.  These unions include but are not limited to; carpenters, electricians, plumbers, steamfitters, sheet metal, bricklayers, tile, ornamental iron workers, structural ironworkers, reinforcing iron workers, painters and laborers.
