People in the most remote parts of the globe can seem like close neighbors. Yet our language differences continue to be a barrier to communication, which makes the study of foreign languages more important than ever.\n\nElon's Department of World Languages and Cultures offers a major in French, an international language spoken in approximately 50 countries and regions on five continents. The study of French is also ideal as a second major combined with many fields, especially business, international studies and communications. Students majoring in another discipline can also minor in French, which provides a distinct advantage for anyone interested in a career in the international arena.\n\nElon's French program helps students build advanced linguistic proficiency in French, advanced intercultural competency, and develops their ability to be critical thinkers and problem solvers in the French language. Our curriculum combines a broad-based liberal arts education with a focus on language study. Classroom learning is enhanced by digital technology as well as by opportunities to study abroad. All classes in the major curriculum, including beginning levels, are taught in French, and courses are scaffolded to build both linguistic and intercultural skills while students develop as critical thinkers. As a French major, you will expand your knowledge of French and Francophone cultures in interdisciplinary courses that integrate a variety of cultural perspectives from literature, cinema, history, the news media, and music while simultaneously developing your ability to read, speak, write, and understand the French language.\n\nAs a French major, you will expand your knowledge of French and Francophone cultures in interdisciplinary courses that integrate a variety of cultural perspectives from literature, cinema, history, the news media, and music while simultaneously developing your ability to read, speak, write, and understand the French language."},"ceterms:industryType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/naics/?input=611630\u0026year=2022\u0026details=611630","ceterms:codedNotation":"611630","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Language Schools"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/naics/?input=61163\u0026year=2022\u0026details=61163","ceterms:codedNotation":"61163","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Language Schools"}}],"ceterms:alternateName":{"en-US":["French A.B."]},"ceterms:latestVersion":"https://elon.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2022-2023/academic-catalog/academic-programs/the-college-of-arts-and-sciences/world-languages-and-cultures/french-a-b","ceterms:occupationType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/25-1124.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"25-1124.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Foreign Language and Literature Teachers, Postsecondary"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/29-1127.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"29-1127.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Speech-Language Pathologists"}}],"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://elon.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2022-2023/academic-catalog/academic-programs/the-college-of-arts-and-sciences/world-languages-and-cultures/french-a-b","ceterms:commonConditions":["https://credentialengineregistry.org/resources/ce-5d908d91-f912-4b88-ad9a-ae666f6c0cc4"],"ceterms:audienceLevelType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/AudienceLevel","ceterms:targetNode":"audLevel:BachelorsDegreeLevel","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Audience Level"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Bachelors Degree Level"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Intended for those completing college/university-level programs within approximately three to four years where course work and activities advance skills from a lower-division or generalist level to an upper-division level."}}],"ceterms:estimatedDuration":[{"@type":"ceterms:DurationProfile","ceterms:exactDuration":"P4Y"}],"ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Credential Status"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Awards of the credential are ongoing."}}}
