Formal agreements have been made with colleges and universities which allow for coursework taken in the Associate of Science degree program at Columbus State to transfer and apply to a bachelor\u0026rsquo;s degree. The Associate of Science, Biotechnology transfer pathway provides students with the education and laboratory skills required for entry-level employment as technicians in biotechnology industries. Biotechnology uses biological systems or living organisms to create or modify products intended to improve human health and society. The Associate of Science, Biotechnology transfer pathway offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for entry-level roles in the biotechnology field. Students acquire foundational knowledge in areas such as the historical development of biotechnology, bioethics, safety, and a range of lab techniques, including reagent preparation, cell culture, protein purification, microbiology, molecular biology (DNA), and bioinformatics. As the biotechnology industry expands into sectors like human diagnostics, agriculture, veterinary medicine, food production, and environmental cleanup, graduates are well-positioned for entry-level technician roles in fields such as forensic science, medical science, food science and technology, and bioinformatics. Program outcomes include the ability to effectively communicate scientific information, mastery of biological principles and biotechnology techniques, proficiency in laboratory skills, and adherence to ethical and professional standards. Students will identify industry sectors and career paths in biotechnology, explain the scientific principles behind modern applications, and demonstrate an understanding of regulations, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and quality documentation. Additionally, students will become proficient in lab techniques like tissue culture and protein purification, maintain and calibrate standard laboratory equipment, perform basic laboratory measurements and statistical analyses, and use computer technology for data analysis and display. Workplace skills such as safety, ethical behavior, teamwork, time management, and effective communication will also be emphasized throughout the program."},"ceterms:dateEffective":"2024-08-26","ceterms:estimatedCost":[{"@type":"ceterms:CostProfile","ceterms:name":{"en-US":"Cost Profile"},"ceterms:price":192.93,"ceterms:currency":"US Dollar","ceterms:costDetails":"https://www.cscc.edu/academics/tuition-and-fees/other-academic-fees.shtml","ceterms:description":{"en-US":"The cost of this credential includes tuition (instructional and general fee per credit hour), application, records, and ID fee, technology and facilities fee, online course fee (if applicable), lab fees (if applicable), proficiency examination fee (if applicable), transient student fees (if applicable), and non-traditional credit fee (if applicable)."},"ceterms:directCostType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CostType","ceterms:targetNode":"costType:Tuition","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Cost Type"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Tuition"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Cost for teaching and instruction."}}},{"@type":"ceterms:CostProfile","ceterms:name":{"en-US":"Cost Profile"},"ceterms:price":415.0,"ceterms:currency":"US Dollar","ceterms:costDetails":"https://www.cscc.edu/academics/tuition-and-fees/other-academic-fees.shtml","ceterms:description":{"en-US":"The cost of this credential includes tuition (instructional and general fee per credit hour), application, records, and ID fee, technology and facilities fee, online course fee (if applicable), lab fees (if applicable), proficiency examination fee (if applicable), transient student fees (if applicable), and non-traditional credit fee (if applicable)."},"ceterms:directCostType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CostType","ceterms:targetNode":"costType:EnrollmentFee","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Cost Type"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Enrollment Fee"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Cost to enroll in the learning opportunity being described."}}}],"ceterms:occupationType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/25-1199.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"25-1199.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Postsecondary Teachers, All Other"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"All postsecondary teachers not listed separately."}}],"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://explore.cscc.edu/","ceterms:isPreparationFor":[{"@type":"ceterms:ConditionProfile","ceterms:name":{"en-US":"Preparation for occupation"},"ceterms:description":{"en-US":"This credential is preparation for the following occupation(s)."},"ceterms:targetOccupation":["https://credentialengineregistry.org/resources/ce-ad399bd5-0f8c-4025-ab4e-cf28b224d255"]}],"ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Credential Status"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Awards of the credential are ongoing."}},"ceterms:instructionalProgramType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/Default.aspx?y=56","ceterms:targetNode":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/cipdetail.aspx?y=56\u0026cip=24.0101","ceterms:codedNotation":"24.0101","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Classification of Instructional Programs"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"A program that is a structured combination of the arts, biological and physical sciences, social sciences, and humanities, emphasizing breadth of study.
