Central Service Technicians decontaminate, disinfect, package, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments, equipment, and devices in hospitals and surgical centers. The training program will provide you with classroom instruction and 400-hour clinical externship. You will learn principles of cleaning and processing equipment, methods of sterilization and disinfection, packaging and storage, maintenance of equipment, inventory control, basic surgical instrument identification, and more. You will be eligible for certification after completing 400 hours of clinical experience and passing the IAHCSMM certification exam. Prerequisite: High School Diploma or GED. Program cost includes: textbook; certification exam (one attempt); criminal background check (only one county background check is included in the course fees; if student has resided in multiple counties, additional cost will be at student's expense); drug screening (only one drug screen is included in the course fees). Student is responsible for the following - must be turned in to instructor FIRST week of class: American Heart Association CPR/BLS; Physical Exam with Vaccine Records; PPD / Tuberculosis Skin Test;
