Students then follow a four-year program that conforms to the guidelines of, and is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.\n \n The first two years of the program provide the necessary technical knowledge in mathematics, chemistry, and physics, while introducing and developing problem-solving techniques in eight courses tailored to civil engineering students. The junior year provides courses in each of the civil engineering sub-disciplines, providing students with skills in each and allowing students to determine which they wish to pursue further. The senior year is flexible, allowing students to choose where to focus attention by selecting from more than forty elective courses in civil and environmental engineering.\n \n The required curriculum includes seven writing-intensive courses, thereby not only satisfying but exceeding the University's writing requirement. (See University Academic Requirements.)\n \n Additional opportunities exist for study abroad, cognates, minors, and dual majors, a three-year accelerated track, and early admission into two masters of science degree programs."},"ceterms:occupationType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.bls.gov/soc/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/11-9041.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"11-9041.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Architectural and Engineering Managers"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Plan, direct, or coordinate activities in such fields as architecture and engineering or research and development in these fields."}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.bls.gov/soc/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/11-9041.01","ceterms:codedNotation":"11-9041.01","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Biofuels/Biodiesel Technology and Product Development Managers"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Define, plan, or execute biofuels/biodiesel research programs that evaluate alternative feedstock and process technologies with near-term commercial potential."}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.bls.gov/soc/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/17-2051.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"17-2051.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Civil Engineers"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Perform engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing construction and maintenance of building structures, and facilities, such as roads, railroads, airports, bridges, harbors, channels, dams, irrigation projects, pipelines, power plants, and water and sewage systems."}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.bls.gov/soc/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/17-2051.01","ceterms:codedNotation":"17-2051.01","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Transportation Engineers"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Develop plans for surface transportation projects, according to established engineering standards and state or federal construction policy.
