Graduates of the BSSEM will be eligible to apply for licensure as secondary mathematics teachers in the state of Montana and will meet the state's academic requirements for highly qualified secondary mathematics teachers, one of the most highly sought-after candidates in Montana's secondary schools.\r\n\r\nThe majority of the BSSEM-required coursework is advanced mathematics, beginning with Calculus I. Besides the mathematics coursework, additional courses are required in education as well as general education. The program design emphasizes the development of teachers prepared to effectively meet the needs of middle and high school learners, particularly rural and American Indian learners. A key strength of the program is the requirement for students to participate in numerous clinical experiences in which they spend significant amounts of time observing and working in classrooms to help with their preparation as professional educators."},"ceterms:estimatedCost":[{"@type":"ceterms:CostProfile","ceterms:name":{"en-US":"Cost Profile"},"ceterms:currency":"USD","ceterms:costDetails":"https://skc.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2025-2026/2025-2026-catalog/undergraduate-tuition-and-fees"}],"ceterms:occupationType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/25-2031.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"25-2031.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Secondary School Teachers, Except Special and Career/Technical Education"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Teach one or more subjects to students at the secondary school level."}}],"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://skc.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2025-2026/2025-2026-catalog/undergraduate-certificates-associate-and-bachelor-degree-programs/education-division/secondary-education-mathematics/secondary-education-mathematics-bachelor-of-science","ceterms:audienceLevelType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/AudienceLevel","ceterms:targetNode":"audLevel:BachelorsDegreeLevel","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Audience Level"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Bachelors Degree Level"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Intended for those completing college/university-level programs within approximately three to four years where course work and activities advance skills from a lower-division or generalist level to an upper-division level."}}],"ceterms:estimatedDuration":[{"@type":"ceterms:DurationProfile","ceterms:exactDuration":"P4Y"}],"ceterms:availabilityListing":["https://skc.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2025-2026/2025-2026-catalog/undergraduate-degrees-and-certificates-offered-at-salish-kootenai-college"],"ceterms:financialAssistance":[{"@type":"ceterms:FinancialAssistanceProfile","ceterms:name":{"en-US":"Financial Assistance Available"},"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://skc.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2025-2026/2025-2026-catalog/undergraduate-tuition-and-fees"}],"ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Credential Status"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Awards of the credential are ongoing."}},"ceterms:instructionalProgramType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/Default.aspx?y=56","ceterms:targetNode":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/cipdetail.aspx?y=56\u0026cip=13.1205","ceterms:codedNotation":"13.1205","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Classification of Instructional Programs"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Secondary Education and Teaching"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"A program that prepares individuals to teach students in the secondary grades, which may include grades seven through twelve, depending on the school system or state regulations.
