An active, hands-on research experience is an integral part of the program. This program offers paid laboratory internships, as well as academic credit for working in SKC's two research laboratories - the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (SKC-ECL), and the Cellular and Molecular Biology Laboratory (SKC-CMBL). Students with productive research projects often travel to national meetings ranging from Hawaii to Washington D.C. to present their work.\r\n\r\nThe Life Sciences program offers two tracks that differ only in the classes taken in the senior year. One is the \"Cellular Biology\" track, which focuses this last year on a more in-depth study of molecular and cellular processes, and the other the \"Environmental Health\" track that focuses more on tribal environmental health issues, epidemiology, environmental chemistry and toxicology.\r\n\r\nThe Life Sciences Program welcomes students with Associate of Science degrees from other programs. Such students will need to work closely with an advisor to ensure that the course requirements of the Freshman and Sophomore years are met and students can progress."},"ceterms:estimatedCost":[{"@type":"ceterms:CostProfile","ceterms:name":{"en-US":"Cost Profile"},"ceterms:currency":"USD","ceterms:costDetails":"https://skc.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2025-2026/2025-2026-catalog/undergraduate-tuition-and-fees"}],"ceterms:occupationType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/19-1029.04","ceterms:codedNotation":"19-1029.04","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Biologists"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Research or study basic principles of plant and animal life, such as origin, relationship, development, anatomy, and functions."}}],"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://skc.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2025-2026/2025-2026-catalog/undergraduate-certificates-associate-and-bachelor-degree-programs/life-sciences-department/life-sciences/life-sciences-bachelor-of-science","ceterms:audienceLevelType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/AudienceLevel","ceterms:targetNode":"audLevel:BachelorsDegreeLevel","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Audience Level"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Bachelors Degree Level"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Intended for those completing college/university-level programs within approximately three to four years where course work and activities advance skills from a lower-division or generalist level to an upper-division level."}}],"ceterms:estimatedDuration":[{"@type":"ceterms:DurationProfile","ceterms:exactDuration":"P4Y"}],"ceterms:availabilityListing":["https://skc.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2025-2026/2025-2026-catalog/undergraduate-degrees-and-certificates-offered-at-salish-kootenai-college"],"ceterms:financialAssistance":[{"@type":"ceterms:FinancialAssistanceProfile","ceterms:name":{"en-US":"Financial Assistance Available"},"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://skc.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2025-2026/2025-2026-catalog/undergraduate-tuition-and-fees"}],"ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Credential Status"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Awards of the credential are ongoing."}},"ceterms:instructionalProgramType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/Default.aspx?y=56","ceterms:targetNode":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/cipdetail.aspx?y=56\u0026cip=26.0406","ceterms:codedNotation":"26.0406","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Classification of Instructional Programs"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"An integrated, combined program that focuses on the scientific study of cells, cellular systems, and the molecular basis of cell structure and function.
