The courses must include the University Core Curriculum and 36 credits of history courses, including those listed below. At least 3 of the 9 credits must cover the pre-modern period and at least 3 cover the modern period.\r\nAll students are encouraged to demonstrate an intermediate proficiency (2000-level course) in a foreign language either through a placement test or by passing 2000-level courses.\r\nIn line with the University's core mission of experiential education, history majors should participate in at least one experiential learning course or activity (e.g., Study Abroad, Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, internship, service learning course, etc.) in addition to the senior thesis.\r\nThe BA-History: Applied History \u0026amp; Public Policy Concentration requires the completion of 121 credits. The courses must include the University Core Curriculum and at least 33 credits of history courses, including those listed below.\r\nStudents must complete at least 3 credits from each of the following areas for a total of 9 credits: Europe/World, Latin America, and the United States. At least 3 of the 9 credits must cover the pre-modern period and at least 3 cover the modern period.\r\nStudents must complete at least 15 credits of history courses that have the \"applied history\" attribute, including HIST 3350: Applied History and Public Policy.\r\nAll students are encouraged to demonstrate an intermediate proficiency (2000-level course) in a foreign language either through a placement test of by passing 2000-level courses.\r\nIn line with the University's core mission of experiential education, students should participate in experiential learning courses and/or activities (e.g. Study Abroad, Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, internship, service learning course, etc.) in addition to the senior thesis. Students are encouraged to complete the Applied History internship - HIST 4495.\r\nProgram Outcomes\r\nStudents can analyze the interplay amongst such factors as politics, religion, race and economics and their effect on the development of civilizations.\r\nStudents can develop an historical narrative using primary and secondary sources.\r\nStudents can construct a critical historical argument relevant to contemporary or foreseeable challenges using primary and secondary sources, as well as digital and computational data analysis.\r\nStudents can synthesize historical data into a compelling interpretive arguments applicable to informing policy recommendations.\r\nRequired Courses\r\nUniversity Core Curriculum\r\nThe completion of 40 credits of the University Core Curriculum with the following restrictions:\r\nTier 1:\r\nCC6.1: Historical Perspective - HIST 1000: Thinking Historically About...\r\nTier 2 (12 credits):\r\nCC 5.2: Critical Thinking \u0026amp; Problem Solving - PSCI 1125: Public Policy\r\nCC 7.2: The Individual \u0026amp; Society - PSCI 2222: US Foreign Policy\r\nCC 6.2: Historical Perspective - Majors may take only 3 credits in the CC 6.2 competency to encourage them to develop breadth in the liberal arts.\r\nMajor Courses\r\nThree credits from each of the following areas, for a total of 9 credits.
