Students analyze a range of issues within earth, environmental, biological, chemical and physical sciences, and the inherent interrelationships within social sciences not limited to sociology, psychology, ethics and economics. Emphasis is placed on analyzing the complexity of contemporary environmental issues and the development of sustainable policy solutions to address competing interests between human institutions and ecological capacity at local, regional and global scales. The program is designed to foster a breadth of science education in the realm of environmental studies'by offering a wide variety of environmental courses to choose from. The AS degree provides a seamless liberal education transition as well as excellent preparation for completing the lower division requirements for subsequent university work.
