At that time, the department had the only meteorology program in the southeastern United States. Throughout its history meteorology has had one of the leading programs in the country and at present is considered to be one of the top ten in the nation for overall excellence of broadly-based programs.\n\nMeteorology graduate students are candidates for either the Master of Science (MS) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. Graduate students normally specialize in dynamic, physical, or synoptic meteorology, or climatology.
