Admission to the upper division degree program is highly competitive, and a minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for application at most institutions. Some institutions have higher minimum GPA requirements for applicants. In addition to competitive grades, admission to upper division programs requires volunteer work with certified occupational therapists and successful completion of the courses listed below. After completion of the four-year degree, the prospective occupational therapist must complete a year of internship, during which they must pass a state professional certifying exam. Occupational therapists are employed by hospitals, schools, and mental health facilities to help individuals who are impaired by physical illness, injury, psychological disorder, or developmental disability regain daily living skills and become self-sufficient. State universities having the upper division work include Florida A\u0026M, Florida International University, and Florida Gulf Coast University. The University of Florida offers occupational therapy as a master's program only, as do many other universities. It is important that the student consult the catalog of the university to which transfer is planned."},"ceterms:alternateName":{"en-US":["Associate in Arts"]},"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://www.gulfcoast.edu/academics/degrees-programs/index.html","ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Credential Status"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Awards of the credential are ongoing."}},"ceterms:learningDeliveryType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/Delivery","ceterms:targetNode":"deliveryType:BlendedDelivery","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Delivery Type"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Blended Delivery"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Delivery includes significant levels of both in person and online."}}],"ceterms:instructionalProgramType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/Default.aspx?y=56","ceterms:targetNode":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/cipdetail.aspx?y=56\u0026cip=24.0101","ceterms:codedNotation":"24.0101","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Classification of Instructional Programs"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies."},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"A program that is a structured combination of the arts, biological and physical sciences, social sciences, and humanities, emphasizing breadth of study.
