An apprentice generally receives half the salary of an experienced craftsperson at the onset of the program. Students are required to take a minimum of 144 hours of classroom instruction per year. Classes provide a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Bergen County Technical Schools offer approved programs. Apprenticeship training programs can be added with a minimum of 10 students. Customized apprenticeships in fields outside the scope of school programs can be arranged for individual students. Length of training varies from four to six years and is determined by the industry or union. The United States Department of Labor and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development approve apprenticeship programs in New Jersey.\nHow can I qualify \nYou must be employed full-time in your chosen field of work and your employer or union must be willing to sponsor you. You may be eligible for advanced standing if you have on-the-job experience, vocational school training and/or military background. The Apprenticeship Coordinator will assist you with program placement and registration.\nHow can I become certified \nCertification is open to all registered apprentices who successfully complete on-the-job and related classroom training requirements. Individual course certificates must be saved to document the apprenticeship program hours you have completed. Apprenticeship Certificates are issued by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.\n\nPlumber  Apprenticeship (144 hrs. /yr.) \nThe apprentice plumber learns to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair household and industrial plumbing systems.
