It is the machinist's task to interpret the engineer's drawings in order to fabricate new machines and products. Machinists operate various types of material-removing equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and computerized numerical control (CNC) machinery. Some machinists specialize in the operations of one type of machine while others work in a shop where they are required to perform equally well on several different machines. Clark College's program offers instruction in numerous machine processes including the set-up and operation of the engine lathe, surface grinder, cylindrical grinder, tool and cutter grinder, horizontal and vertical mill, horizontal boring mill, and CNC lathes and milling machines. All shop theory subjects have a direct bearing on the student's skill, safety, and attitude. In addition to shop theory and practice, the student studies math, blueprint reading, related welding, metallurgy, safety, and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) programming. All classes are available at night. Beginning and advanced night classes involve learning to safely operate a variety of machine shop equipment such as the lathe, mill, and surface grinder. Theory classes accompany the shop classes. MasterCAM programming classes teach basic CAM programming for mills, lathe, EDM, etc. The basic CNC class involves writing programs and learning to safely operate the HASS CNC mills. The Machining Technology curriculum has changed to better serve students by providing an open-entry, open-exit program designed to serve people of all skill levels. Students who successfully complete the Major Area Requirement courses will possess all the outcome skills taught in each area. The flexible, condensed program is ideal for students seeking to retrain and re-enter the job market."},"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"http://www.clark.edu/academics/programs/machining/index.php","ceterms:estimatedDuration":[{"@type":"ceterms:DurationProfile","ceterms:exactDuration":"P2Y"}],"ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"CredentialStatus"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"}},"ceterms:learningDeliveryType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/Delivery","ceterms:targetNode":"deliveryType:InPerson","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Delivery"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"In-Person Only"}}]}
