A major in philosophy at USI is only 30 hours (10 classes) and also makes an excellent second major to any other major degree. Studying philosophy at USI will deepen your understanding of foundational ideas, such as the nature of morality and the value of proper reasoning. Unlike many larger institutions, you'll receive individual attention from faculty dedicated to teaching and academic advising. You'll enjoy small upper-level classes such as legal and political philosophy, philosophy of mind, bioethics, sexual ethics, cognitive science, philosophy of science, environmental ethics and metaphysics. Philosophy club members can also participate in the regional November Ethics Bowl competition in which students train for and debate controversial moral issues in contemporary society against other schools in the area.\n\nBecause the study of philosophy teaches students to think logically, critically and ethically, philosophy majors are well prepared to pursue any number of challenging careers such as theology, politics, law, computer science, social science teaching, medicine, business and other areas.
