The certification will be renewed after three years, provided the firefighter successfully completes the continuing education requirements. The Firefighter I course requirements meet or exceed the nationally recognized standard, NFPA 1001: Standard for Fire Service Professional Qualifications. An individual certified at the Firefighter I level will have demonstrated competency in the knowledge and practical skills required to perform at the Firefighter I level.
