Network administrators maintain the hardware and software that comprises the network. This includes the deployment, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of switches, routers, firewalls, and other hardware devices. It includes maintenance of network servers: domain controllers, file servers, SQL servers, VPN gateways, intrusion detection systems. Their work can also include the maintenance of the network's authorization infrastructure, as well as network backup systems.
