Therefore, education in Health Information Technology is based upon general education principles and a specialized body of knowledge and skills that focuses on the preparation of a competent specialized professional.  The faculty of the Health Information Technology program believes that learning is an individual and continuous process resulting in a behavioral change which can be measured; and that learning is facilitated and affected by motivation, self-discipline, and structured experience. We further believe that the role of the instructor is to identify learning needs, guide the learner, and establish an environment conducive to learning.  We believe that the Health Information Technology student is an adult learner and as such shares the responsibility for his/her learning. This allows the student to develop into a life-long learner, effective practitioner, and a responsible citizen.
