A Patient Care Technician, also known as a patient\ncare assistant, provides patient care and support under the direction of a registered nurse.\nThe PCT program utilizes a hybrid/blended learning environment, and is taught through a\ncombination of lecture, lab, and clinical hours. Hands-on training in our on-campus medical labs\nwill help students develop essential skills, and practical experience during the clinical internship\nwill reinforce those skills and prepare students for entry-level employment in a healthcare\nenvironment.\n\nThe program provides foundational knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy, and\nphysiology, and students will gain specialized skills in phlebotomy, EKG, and patient care\ntechniques. The major courses of the Patient Care Technician program will provide advanced\ntraining to students in a variety of patient care skills including measuring vital signs, collecting\nspecimens, and providing basic nursing care. Basic nursing care may include assisting patients\nwith feeding, dressing, daily hygiene and bathing, urinary and bowel needs, mobility, and other\nactivities related to daily living.\n\nStudents in the PCT program will also gain a basic understanding of patient nutritional, oxygen,\nand exercise needs, and they will learn the importance of proper communication with patients\nand other healthcare team members.\n\nUpon satisfactory completion of the program, graduates will be prepared to take the Certified\nPatient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) exam offered by the National Healthcareer\nAssociation (NHA).\n\nAfter completing all program requirements, graduates will be awarded a Patient Care Technician\nCertificate of Achievement.\n\nThis program will be delivered using hybrid learning.
