It is our story, the story of us, as human beings. It is the study of culture, the creative expression of humankind through the ages, into the present, including global and historical overviews of subjects such as Art, Architecture, Mythology, Literature, and Film, as well as how they evolved and interconnect. In the Humanities students gain knowledge and information which will enable them to decode the world around them, understanding at a deeper level what they see and hear, as well as developing skills of critical analysis. Students examine relevant works carefully, putting them in historical, social and cultural context. What students gain through the study of the Humanities will prove invaluable lifelong, both in private life and in professional careers. Students are empowered to think for themselves, encouraged to work in teams, present their thoughts in writing, in discussions and in presentations. Students in Humanities courses will often be given the opportunity to complete a creative piece as their final project for the course. \n \n Because the Humanities AA is an interdisciplinary degree, prepares students to transfer into a variety of majors. Students will complete a minimum of 60 degree applicable semester units consisting of required courses for major (18 units), general education and elective courses as needed.
