The degree will give you a diverse visual art background culminating in a final art portfolio highlighting each student's achievement.This program is designed for transfer to a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree to Minnesota State University-Mankato. It may transfer in part or in entirety to other baccalaureate institutions. For assistance in program planning, or to explore additional transfer options, students should meet with an advisor. By completing this program, students will achieve the following learning goals:1. Demonstrate a required level of creativity and technical proficiency.2. Demonstrate an ability to visually represent a conceptual idea; 3. Demonstrate an ability to develop a consistent body of work reflecting a concept/theme; 4. Demonstrate the ability to critique, speak and write about their own work and the visual arts of others. 5. Understand the historical and cultural development of works of art throughout history.6. Communicate informed personal reactions to works of art.Some students may need preparatory courses in the areas of English, Mathematics, or Reading. Courses numbered below 100 will not apply toward this degree.  In order to complete the degree,  a minimum of 60 semester credits in courses numbered 100 or above are required.  Students must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 in courses numbered 100 or above. Students who have transferred to SCC must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in combined SCC courses and accepted transfer courses for the MnTC requirements.  A minimum of 15 semester credits applied toward the degree must be taken from SCC. The A.F.A. degree increases the ease in transferring to four-year institutions in the Arts.
