The department offers both the Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in oceanography with specializations in biological, chemical, geochemical, and physical oceanography. The oceanography program has earned both national and international recognition. Our faculty members often chair sessions at national and international scientific conferences, and their research is reported in the best professional journals. Oceanography faculty members have been elected Fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Meteorological Society, and the American Physical Society.
