This program is based in research that investigates a wide range of dance practices, from the vernacular and religious to stage forms. Dance is examined within broad cultural contexts in order to understand the ways in which it both reflects and influences American identity. This major offers a scholarly focused option to complement the existing major in Studio and Related Studies, which offers a more practice-based emphasis of study. The major in American Dance Studies prepares the student, among other options, to continue study towards a PhD degree in Dance. The American Dance Studies major will also prepare students for careers or continued studies in diverse areas of the dance field that may include, but are not limited to: dramaturgy, dance administration, museum or dance archival studies, or arts library science."},"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://dance.fsu.edu/programs/","ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Credential Status"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Awards of the credential are ongoing."}},"ceterms:learningDeliveryType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/Delivery","ceterms:targetNode":"deliveryType:InPerson","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Delivery Type"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"In-Person Only"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Delivery is only face-to-face."}}],"ceterms:instructionalProgramType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/Default.aspx?y=56","ceterms:targetNode":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/cipdetail.aspx?y=56\u0026cip=50.0301","ceterms:codedNotation":"50.0301","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Classification of Instructional Programs"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Dance, General."},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"A general program that prepares individuals to express ideas, feelings, and/or inner visions through the performance of one or more of the dance disciplines, including but not limited to ballet, modern, jazz, ethnic, and folk dance, and that focuses on the study and analysis of dance as a cultural phenomenon.
