As a mechanical engineer, you may be called upon to oversee the manufacture and operation of these products. This breadth is reflected in the USI BSME curriculum. BSME specific courses build directly upon the engineering core curriculum of statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, electric circuits and strength of materials. Additionally, you will have lab experiences and computer instruction and design challenges integrated into a number of BSME courses. Your required upper division courses for the degree include heat transfer, material science, dynamics of machinery, modeling dynamic systems, as well as pre-senior design and senior design. Mechanical engineering students at USI have participated in the Baja SAE competition and a human powered vehicle competition. Mechanical engineering students are also prominent team members of the UNITE CubeSat team which is designing, building and will be operating USI's first spacecraft.\n\nEmployment as a mechanical engineer is available in fields as diverse as plastics, robotics, aerospace, automotive, health care and energy conversion."},"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://www.usi.edu/science/engineering/programs/bachelor-of-science-in-manufacturing-engineering","ceterms:estimatedDuration":[{"@type":"ceterms:DurationProfile","ceterms:exactDuration":"P4Y"}],"ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Credential Status"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Awards of the credential are ongoing."}},"ceterms:instructionalProgramType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/Default.aspx?y=56","ceterms:targetNode":"https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/cipdetail.aspx?y=56\u0026cip=14.1901","ceterms:codedNotation":"14.1901","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Classification of Instructional Programs"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Mechanical Engineering"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"A program that prepares individuals to apply mathematical and scientific principles to the design, development and operational evaluation of physical systems used in manufacturing and end-product systems used for specific uses, including machine tools, jigs and other manufacturing equipment; stationary power units and appliances; engines; self-propelled vehicles; housings and containers; hydraulic and electric systems for controlling movement; and the integration of computers and remote control with operating systems."}}]}
