The B.S. in Health Sciences combines basic scientific knowledge, healthcare industry specific knowledge, and practical skills for students to be competitive in the 21st century healthcare workforce. The program addresses both the administrative and technical aspects of healthcare as well as the professional, social, ethical, and political elements.  Courses provide broad technical skills as well as the organizational competencies needed for entry level positions in a wide range of healthcare organizations and companies, as well as preparation for graduate study in clinical professions.  In particular, this program aims to provide a broad, interdisciplinary training for students interested in clinical and non-clinical health fields including but not limited to medicine, population health, clinical research administration, and healthcare administration.  The B.S. in Health Sciences also offers two optional concentrations: Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy.  Each of these concentrations focuses on a specific healthcare profession and is designed to prepare students for graduate school in an area of specialization.PROGRAM OUTCOMES:- Students will be competent in collecting, interpreting, and analyzing health-related data- Students will be competent in formulating research questions and critically evaluating research done by others- Students will demonstrate leadership skills and their ability to work in interprofessional teams.- Students will be competent in communicating effectively about health sciences topics to peer and professional audiences.- Students will demonstrate competence in understanding laws and regulations applicable to health professional practice.- Students will demonstrate competence in identifying the social and behavioral aspects of health for individuals and populations.- Students will demonstrate cultural competence in healthcare settings and discussions.- Students will demonstrate professionalism incorporating the ethical values of the discipline.- Students will be competent in applying scientific knowledge, skills and techniques to health-related problems- Students will be competent in understanding the roles of individuals, structures and processes in the functioning of the US healthcare system\r\nStudents earning a B.S. degree in health sciences must complete a minimum of 126 credits.
