The course is divided three learning units the first provides an overview of the hospitality industry and guest room services, the second teaches the skills and duties of room attendants, and the third covers customer service and hospitality. This course is a front-loaded, 153-hours of related training instruction and testing. For homework, the students must complete and pass the online AHLEI Skills, Tasks, and Results Training (START) Program. The apprenticeship is a competency-based program, where the student must work in a union hotel for a minimum of 1,000 hours and successfully pass all of his/her competencies.The program prepares individuals to successfully enter the hospitality industry with a knowledge of terminology and acronyms used in the industry, professional conduct and personal grooming, organization and time management, how to clean a room, how to avoid injury by learning safety and ergonomic techniques, how to provide excellent customer service skills, how to identify victims of slavery and trafficking, and how to deal with difficult customers.
