The Bachelor of Science in forensic chemistry at Sam Houston State University, the first degree of its kind in Texas, is designed to prepare students for careers combining a knowledge of chemistry and the legal system. Through classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction, students learn how to test evidence, preserve the chain of evidence, defend their findings, and present them in court. Students completing this degree are prepared for careers in forensic chemistry in both private and government arenas across the country or for further study in forensic science in graduate school.\nRequirements\n\nA minor in criminal justice is required and is included in the curriculum for the degree plan. Most students choose to minor in biology in addition to criminal justice. Some students choose to double major in forensic chemistry and criminal justice with a minor in biology.\nCareers in Forensic Chemistry\n\n Continued studies in graduate school\n Work in crime labs"},"ceterms:regulatedBy":["https://credentialengineregistry.org/resources/ce-4ea8b911-5659-49e0-b382-8dfed5277bbf"],"ceterms:accreditedBy":["_:7afe3fe8-6267-e7b7-ccff-227414e56f32"],"ceterms:occupationType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/11-9121.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"11-9121.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Natural Sciences Managers"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Plan, direct, or coordinate activities in such fields as life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, statistics, and research and development in these fields."}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/19-2031.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"19-2031.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Chemists"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses or experiments in laboratories for quality or process control or to develop new products or knowledge."}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/19-4092.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"19-4092.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Forensic Science Technicians"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Collect, identify, classify, and analyze physical evidence related to criminal investigations.
