Phlebotomists draw blood from patients in preparation for medical testing. A phlebotomy technician is an integral member of the medical laboratory team whose primary function is the collection of blood samples from patients by venipuncture or dermal puncture. The phlebotomy technician facilitates the collection and transportation of laboratory specimens and is often the patients only contact with the medical laboratory.\nStudents will also participate in a Phlebotomy Internship. This internship provides practical phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting where students will be required to complete 100 venipunctures and 5 dermal punctures at the clinical site and record a minimum of 80 clinical hours. WCCC will partner with both Calais Regional Hospital and Downeast Community Hospital.\n\nProgram Educational Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this program, the graduates will be qualified to sit for the Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)."},"ceterms:industryType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/eos/www/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/sssd/naics/naicsrch?code=6215\u0026search=2017","ceterms:codedNotation":"6215","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Medical and Diagnostic Laboratories"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Medical and Diagnostic Laboratories"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/eos/www/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/sssd/naics/naicsrch?code=6221\u0026search=2017","ceterms:codedNotation":"6221","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"General Medical and Surgical Hospitals"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"General Medical and Surgical Hospitals"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"General Medical and Surgical Hospitals"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Medical and Diagnostic Laboratories"}}],"ceterms:estimatedCost":[{"@type":"ceterms:CostProfile","ceterms:name":{"en-US":"Cost Profile"},"ceterms:price":2400.0,"ceterms:currency":"US Dollar","ceterms:costDetails":"https://www.wccc.me.edu/admissions-aid/finances/tuition-fees","ceterms:description":{"en-US":"The costs for this Credential include an estimate for the first academic year as a full time student.
