Licensed Veterinary Technicians assist veterinarians in capacities similar to registered nurses and other medical technicians in the field of human medicine.  The completion of this degree allows students to take the national exam and apply for a license. Licensed Veterinary Technicians are trained to work on small and large animals performing such duties as: anesthesiology, radiology, conducting laboratory procedures, assisting in surgical and diagnostic procedures, performing routine dental procedures, administering emergency and first aid care, animal care and nutrition, restraint of animals for examination, dispensing medication, client communication and education, reception and record keeping. The Veterinary Nursing field needs people who care about animals, can be compassionate toward sick and injured animals, and be dedicated to Veterinary Medicine.   Employment opportunities exist in many different fields of veterinary medicine: Large and Small Animal Hospitals, Biomedical Research Facilities, Schools of Veterinary Medicine, Humane Societies, Zoos/Wildlife Medicine, Biological Laboratories, Teaching Institutions, Herd Health Management, Diagnostic Laboratories, Emergency and Specialty Hospitals.    The field of Veterinary Technology is very broad, well beyond the confines of a primary care veterinary hospital. The theory classes are taught online, and the clinical applications are conducted in approved veterinary hospitals and/or facilities, within  the state of Alabama, in which the student will gain clinical nursing skills.   We are looking for interested, hardworking and enthusiastic men and women, who wish to work under the direction of  a licensed veterinarian, to enroll in this program. The program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technicians Education and Activities  (AVMA/CVTEA). Upon successful completion of the prescribed course of study, students are awarded the Associate Degree in Applied Science (A.A.S.).
