In partnership with Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), an Exelon Company, DTI designed an Overhead Electrical Line Worker (OELW) program to benefit students looking to meet the current need for overhead electricians/electrical line workers in the electrical power industry. \r\nThe Advanced Certificate in OELW prepares students for an entry-level apprentice position with a utility contractor. The program provides instruction in tool safety and usage, construction materials, work site safety, blueprint reading, basic electrical systems, electrical connectors, powerline equipment, overhead distribution line design, anchoring techniques, aerial climbing, and mathematical concepts. Theory and practical hands-on application are emphasized throughout the program. Course content also includes an introduction to the construction trades and AED/CPR certification.
