Students will work with a parametric software for ship modeling, which is the core tool of systems engineering in ship design, to model the complex systems involved in a ship. Students will be introduced to the design of various systems inside the hull: electrical; piping/machinery; HVAC; structural; hull outfit; and human factors and systems engineering. Students are introduced to maritime history and vocabulary, hull shape, forces on a ship, and the basic physics, geometry, and algebra concepts upon which ship design is based.\n\nOpportunities for graduates include positions as entry-level designers in the ship building industry. Graduates may continue to complete an associate degree in Architectural and Engineering Design."},"ceterms:industryType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/eos/www/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/sssd/naics/naicsrch?code=5413\u0026search=2017","ceterms:codedNotation":"5413","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Architectural, Engineering, and Related Services"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Architectural, Engineering, and Related Services"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Architectural, Engineering, and Related Services"}}],"ceterms:estimatedCost":[{"@type":"ceterms:CostProfile","ceterms:name":{"en-US":"Cost Profile"},"ceterms:price":3384.0,"ceterms:currency":"US Dollar","ceterms:costDetails":"https://www.smccme.edu/admissions-aid/tuition-fees","ceterms:description":{"en-US":"The costs for this Credential include an estimate for the first academic year as a full time student.
