Radiologic technologists also referred to as radiographers, produce x-ray films (radiographs) of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems. They prepare patients for radiologic examinations by explaining the procedure, removing jewelry and other articles through which x rays cannot pass, and positioning patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately radiographed. Radiologic technologists must follow physicians' orders precisely and conform to regulations concerning the use of radiation to protect themselves, their patients, and their coworkers from unnecessary exposure. In addition to preparing patients and operating equipment, radiologic technologists keep patient records and adjust and maintain equipment. They also may prepare work schedules, evaluate purchases of equipment, or manage a radiology department. Radiographers may specialize in Diagnostic Ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), or Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Another common specialty for radiographers specialize in is mammography. Physical stamina is important in this occupation because technologists are on their feet for long periods and may lift or turn disabled patients. This cooperative program enables students who live in the Everett vicinity to apply for admission to a 21-month fulltime program in RT, including the specific RT classes and clinicals. Successful completion results in an Associate in Applied Science awarded by Bellingham Technical College. Program graduates are eligible to take the national certification exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Successful performance on the exam results in national certification as a Registered Radiologic Technologist.Prospective students must complete 47.5 credits (or more, depending on math placement level) BEFORE applying to the BTC Radiologic Technology program.  These classes include English composition, intermediate algebra, chemistry, several biology courses, psychology and medical terminology. All science classes must be complete within 3 years of application to the program. Once an application is submitted, there may be a wait of several quarters before acceptance into the program. Students accepted into Bellingham Techs Radiologic Technology program will receive academic and clinical education through a variety of learning technologies. Coursework will be delivered using the Internet, CD, computer lab activities, video conferencing, radiology lab activities, and the traditional classroom. Clinical education will be provided in a variety of settings and prepare the student for work as an entry-level radiologic technologist. An accepted student can take classes and clinical either in Bellingham or in the Everett area, as well as online. For program costs please check the Bellingham website. Students may apply for financial aid. Prospective students should be aware that outside employment is discouraged because of academic pressures and the necessity of practical experience during a variety of shifts."},"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://www.everettcc.edu/programs/stem-health-prof/health/health-sciences/radiologic-tech","ceterms:estimatedDuration":[{"@type":"ceterms:DurationProfile","ceterms:exactDuration":"P2Y"}],"ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"CredentialStatus"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"}},"ceterms:learningDeliveryType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/Delivery","ceterms:targetNode":"deliveryType:InPerson","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Delivery"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"In-Person Only"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/Delivery","ceterms:targetNode":"deliveryType:OnlineOnly","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Delivery"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Online Only"}}]}
