Examination and analysis of body fluids, tissues and cells play a crucial role in a physician's ability to diagnose and treat disease. The clinical laboratory science technology program trains students to work in various areas of a clinical laboratory, including hematology, urinalysis, immunohematology (blood bank), microbiology and chemistry. Students collect blood samples, work with state-of-the-art clinical laboratory instrumentation, perform chemical and microscope analysis of urine, cross-match blood for transfusion, identify abnormal blood cells under the microscope and identify infectious bacteria-causing infection in various body locations. Upon completion of the accredited program, graduates will possess an associate of applied science degree and are eligible to take the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Certification national certifying examination. Those passing the examination are certified as medical laboratory technicians (MLT-ASCP). Lorain County Community College has articulation agreements with colleges and universities including programs offered by Lorain County Community College's University Partnership."},"ceterms:occupationType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/25-1071.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"25-1071.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Health Specialties Teachers, Postsecondary"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Teach courses in health specialties, in fields such as dentistry, laboratory technology, medicine, pharmacy, public health, therapy, and veterinary medicine."}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/29-2012.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"29-2012.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Medical and Clinical Laboratory Technicians"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
