CNA Apprenticeship includes both 174 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI) in the following areas: orientation, CNA course curriculum, medical terminology, dementia care and CPR/First Aid, as well as 2,000 hours of On the Job Learning (OJL). BLS/CPR certification is included. Upon successful completion of 174 hours of RTI, students are eligible to take the New Jersey State Department of Health Certified Nurse Aide certification exam. CNAs provide basic patient care under the direction of nursing staff. They perform duties such as feed, bathe, dress, groom patients, change linens, and transfer or transport patients. Students learn to meet the psychological, social, physical and environmental needs (stressing safety) of the patients. Minimum of 16 hours of training in the areas of communication and interpersonal skills, infection control, promoting residents independence and respecting residents rights, and safety/emergency procedures are taught to students prior to any direct contact with residents.
