The graduate programs provide a pathway for students from diverse fields to transition to multiple data science and engineering career paths by providing them with core graduate-level courses across the entire spectrum of the data lifecycle. In support of the interdisciplinary spirit of data science and engineering, the program is designed to accommodate students from a wide range of undergraduate degrees or other graduate degree backgrounds with options for specialization in different domains. A collection of courses with a variety of in-class and online options support students in residence as well as meet the needs of people currently in the workforce or who are otherwise place-bound and need training or retraining in the area of Data Science and Engineering. The 30 credit Master of Science (MS) can be completed online or on-campus and will train students in the management, analysis, and visualization of large and complex data sets. The thesis option consists of 24 credits of course work with 6 thesis credits. The non-thesis option consists of 30 credits of course work, 3 of which will be a project or internship course."},"ceterms:industryType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/eos/www/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/sssd/naics/naicsrch?code=51\u0026search=2017","ceterms:codedNotation":"51","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Information"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Information"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/eos/www/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/sssd/naics/naicsrch?code=518210\u0026search=2017","ceterms:codedNotation":"518210","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Data Processing, Hosting, and Related Services"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Data Processing, Hosting, and Related Services"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/eos/www/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/sssd/naics/naicsrch?code=541330\u0026search=2017","ceterms:codedNotation":"541330","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Engineering Services"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Engineering Services"}}],"ceterms:estimatedCost":[{"@type":"ceterms:CostProfile","ceterms:name":{"en-US":"Cost Profile"},"ceterms:costDetails":"https://umaine.edu/bursar/tuition-and-fees","ceterms:description":{"en-US":"Tuition and fee rates are assessed by credit hour and vary depending upon residency of the student and level of the credential (i.e., undergraduate, graduate)."}}],"ceterms:occupationType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.bls.gov/soc/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/15-1111.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"15-1111.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Computer and Information Research Scientists"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Conduct research into fundamental computer and information science as theorists, designers, or inventors.
