As part of this reflection, they must also consider their sphere of influence when it comes to promoting greater educational equity in a learning community. Next they develop a coaching vision for equity. \n\nReflect on yourself as a learner\n\nEvery person is influenced by the intersection of their context and myriad factors at the core of learner success across whole-learner domains, including academic content, cognition, social and emotional learning, and their personal background. As a coach, it is important to first reflect on your own experiences as a learner, and consider how our own learner variability interacts with others' learner variability in different ways. This intersection can impact the way we build relationships with students and the educators we coach.\n\nOften, learning strengths and preferences are reflected in the way educators teach and regulate the learning environment. Reflecting on yourself as a learner can build empathy when supporting colleagues through a learning and development process. Additionally, understanding your own growth areas can provide insight into how to deal with challenges and changes in the workplace, centering equity. \n\nWhat are your strengths as a learner? What are your challenges \nIdentify a challenge you had as a learner at the beginning of your career. Which factors or strategies helped you overcome that challenge? \nHow would you advocate for yourself if you encountered a similar challenge now? \nHow does your experience as a learner impact your coaching \n\nUnderstanding the impact of your beliefs and biases\n\nIt is important for us as coaches to examine our beliefs and how they are reflected in our language and manifested in our actions. This is where our own biases often show up. Examining ourselves in this way can be hard, but if we do not do this, we risk undermining our relationship with the people we are coaching and doing more harm than good. Several tools can help with this process (listed in Resources section below):\n\nThe Equity Rubric promotes teacher reflection and ongoing development for examining biases and privileges, and understanding equity in your own practice. \nThe Ladder of Inference is a helpful tool for understanding how we can jump to the wrong conclusion. This can help us identify where our beliefs may be showing up and how they impact our thoughts and actions. You can use this tool to unpack a situation you experienced and how your beliefs and biases may have impacted your actions. \nThe Coaching Lenses help us see a problem from many different perspectives and identify how beliefs may show up in different situations.\nThe Learner Variability Project in the Field: A Guide for Culturally Responsive Practice provides reflective questions and protocols that you can use to reflect on your practice individually, with the people you are coaching or as part of a community of practice.\n\nDeveloping your vision for coaching\n\nAfter you've reflected on how your experiences, beliefs, and biases show up, it's important to set a vision for the future. Your vision should reflect your \"why\" for wanting to be a coach and should reflect your beliefs about what effective coaching for equity looks like. Coaching for equity is not just about understanding how your identity intersects with the person or group you are coaching. Rather, this knowledge can help you to understand power dynamics in the learning environment, and how they often reflect systems of oppression. Coaching for equity is about how you can use your sphere of influence to promote changes in practice that lead to more equitable outcomes for learners."},"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://digitalpromise.box.com/s/fb52tcqrggachrki0kveu4vb243k5yrl"}],"ceterms:offeredBy":["https://credentialengineregistry.org/resources/ce-34e96e45-7ba7-4870-b3cf-055d9621d354"],"ceterms:inLanguage":["en"],"ceterms:description":{"en-US":"Educators develop a vision for coaching to promote greater educational equity in a learning community."},"ceterms:credentialId":"https://microcredentials.digitalpromise.org/explore/developing-a-coaching-vision-for-equity","ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://microcredentials.digitalpromise.org/explore/developing-a-coaching-vision-for-equity","ceterms:copyrightHolder":["https://credentialengineregistry.org/resources/ce-34e96e45-7ba7-4870-b3cf-055d9621d354"],"ceterms:availableOnlineAt":["https://microcredentials.digitalpromise.org/explore/developing-a-coaching-vision-for-equity"],"ceterms:availabilityListing":["https://microcredentials.digitalpromise.org/explore/developing-a-coaching-vision-for-equity"],"ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Credential Status"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Awards of the credential are ongoing."}},"ceterms:usesVerificationService":["https://credentialengineregistry.org/resources/ce-1472586c-b08c-4f22-9013-5b4d9a58d277"]}
