In order to interpret the past with clarity and rigor, historians master what the American Historical Association calls \"a set of evolving rules and tools.\"  The skills history majors learn are among the most useful in an information economy and include: searching for evidence across multiple datasets, analyzing vast amounts of material, and distilling complex ideas into a coherent argument.  Finally, the study of history makes for engaged citizens, people who appreciate multiple perspectives and who understand the various forms of oppression and liberation that have haunted and inspired our democracy.\n\nOur alumni go on to rewarding careers.  Roughly one in four pursues a career in history, teaching everywhere from primary schools to research universities and working at museums, archives, or in other public history positions.  The vast majority, however, use their training in other fields.  A list of positions held by recent graduates includes: Trial Attorney (with various firms as well as the US Dept. of Justice), Manager of Sustainability (Wal-Mart), Portfolio Manager (various private equity firms), Brand Planner (Twitter), and Military Officer (US Army, Navy, and Air Force).\n\nAt Elon, you will receive excellent instruction and the opportunity to work with scholars who have expertise in a variety of world regions (US, Europe, Africa, East Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean). You also will complete a major research and writing project as the capstone to your studies. When you graduate, you will not only know something about history, but you will also know how to create and use new knowledge for the public good."},"ceterms:industryType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/naics/?input=712120\u0026year=2022\u0026details=712120","ceterms:codedNotation":"712120","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Historical Sites"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/naics/?input=71212\u0026year=2022\u0026details=71212","ceterms:codedNotation":"71212","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Historical Sites"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/naics/?input=7121\u0026year=2022\u0026details=7121","ceterms:codedNotation":"7121","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Museums, Historical Sites, and Similar Institutions"}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.census.gov/naics/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.census.gov/naics/?input=712\u0026year=2022\u0026details=712","ceterms:codedNotation":"712","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"NAICS"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Museums, Historical Sites, and Similar Institutions"}}],"ceterms:alternateName":{"en-US":["History A.B."]},"ceterms:latestVersion":"https://elon.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2022-2023/academic-catalog/academic-programs/the-college-of-arts-and-sciences/history/history-a-b","ceterms:occupationType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.onetcenter.org/taxonomy.html","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/19-3093.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"19-3093.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Historians"}}],"ceterms:subjectWebpage":"https://elon.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2022-2023/academic-catalog/academic-programs/the-college-of-arts-and-sciences/history/history-a-b","ceterms:commonConditions":["https://credentialengineregistry.org/resources/ce-5d908d91-f912-4b88-ad9a-ae666f6c0cc4"],"ceterms:audienceLevelType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/AudienceLevel","ceterms:targetNode":"audLevel:BachelorsDegreeLevel","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Audience Level"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Bachelors Degree Level"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Intended for those completing college/university-level programs within approximately three to four years where course work and activities advance skills from a lower-division or generalist level to an upper-division level."}}],"ceterms:estimatedDuration":[{"@type":"ceterms:DurationProfile","ceterms:exactDuration":"P4Y"}],"ceterms:credentialStatusType":{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://credreg.net/ctdl/terms/CredentialStatus","ceterms:targetNode":"credentialStat:Active","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Credential Status"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Active"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Awards of the credential are ongoing."}}}
