The program provides students with advanced knowledge and skills in managing and leading higher education institutions, as well as in conducting and applying research to improve educational practices and policies. The Ed.D in Educational Leadership: Higher Education Leadership is designed for experienced higher education professionals who aspire to leadership positions in higher education, including positions in academic administration, student affairs, finance, athletics and enrollment management. It is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the issues facing higher education today, and to develop their skills in leadership, decision-making, and strategic planning. Through their coursework, students will explore topics such as organizational theory, educational policy, diversity and inclusion, and ethics in leadership. They will also engage in examinations of equity and access, and legal issues in Higher Education.  Students additionally take coursework in excellence in collegiate level teaching. The online, asynchronous curriculum is designed to be completed in 3.5 years and includes coursework in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods. Students will learn how to conduct and analyze research in higher education, and how to apply research findings to improve institutional policies and practices. In addition to online coursework, students participate in an in-person residency annually each summer for two-three days. The degree culminates in the completion of a dissertation, in which students will conduct original research on a complex problem of practice within the field of Higher Education, under the guidance of faculty advisors.   Graduates will be prepared to lead with a focus on social justice, equity, inclusion and belonging.  They will be able to navigate complex issues facing postsecondary institutions in today's rapidly changing landscape.
