EnvE degree will plan, design, and construct public and private facilities to minimize the impact of human activity on the environment and to protect human health. For example, environmental engineers design and build drinking water treatment systems, municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants, solid waste management facilities, contaminated ground water remediation systems, and hazardous waste remediation facilities. These facilities must meet regulatory requirements, be cost effective to build and maintain, be safe to operate, and have minimal environmental impact. EnvE students can also focus on sustainable engineering with a required course (CEE 705 (see: /search/?P=CEE%20705) Introduction to Sustainable Engineering) in junior year and two or three senior year electives, including design electives.\n \n In CEE 420 (see: /search/?P=CEE%20420) Environmental Engineering Lectures I, students are introduced to the full spectrum of environmental engineering projects that they will subsequently explore in design teams during their degree program. In (CEE 520 (see: /search/?P=CEE%20520) Environmental Pollution and Protection: A Global Context), students tour field sites and through junior and senior year classes and student organizations (ASCE, EWRI, EWB, SWB), they interact with engineers who talk about engineering consulting and design practices applied to local projects. As part of these projects, students:\n \n \n \n - analyze treatment alternatives;\n \n - recommend a system that meets regulatory operational needs, and is sustainable; and\n \n - prepare an implementation schedule and project budget.\n \n \n \n Design projects are performed in CEE 731 (see: /search/?P=CEE%20731) Advanced Water Treatment Processes and a minimum of two design electives. CEE 797 (see: /search/?P=CEE%20797) Introduction to Project Planning and Design/ and CEE 798 (see: /search/?P=CEE%20798) Project Planning and Design/ serve as a capstone design experience where students work on a multi-disciplinary environmental engineering project and apply skills learned in other courses while working with real-world problems/clients. EnvE students do not have to take a course in the Discovery Biological Science category since they satisfy this category with CEE 724 (see: /search/?P=CEE%20724) Environmental Engineering Microbiology.\n \n At the end of the sophomore year, students are required to have a minimum overall grade-point average of 2.00 and a minimum grade-point average of 2.00 in the following to be permitted to enroll in junior-level courses:\n \n \n \n Course List\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Code\n \n Title\n \n Credits\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CEE 420 (see: /search/?P=CEE%20420)Environmental Engineering Lectures I3\n \n MATH 425 (see: /search/?P=MATH%20425)Calculus I4\n \n CHEM 405 (see: /search/?P=CHEM%20405)Chemical Principles for Engineers4\n \n PHYS 407 (see: /search/?P=PHYS%20407)General Physics I4\n \n MATH 426 (see: /search/?P=MATH%20426)Calculus II4\n \n CEE 500 (see: /search/?P=CEE%20500)Statics for Civil Engineers3\n \n CEE 520 (see: /search/?P=CEE%20520)Environmental Pollution and Protection: A Global Context4\n \n \n \n \n \n To qualify for graduation, an ENE major must: have satisfied the previously specified course requirements, have satisfied the University's Academic Requirements, have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.00, and have a minimum grade-point average of 2.00 in engineering courses."},"ceterms:occupationType":[{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.bls.gov/soc/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/11-9041.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"11-9041.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Architectural and Engineering Managers"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Plan, direct, or coordinate activities in such fields as architecture and engineering or research and development in these fields."}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.bls.gov/soc/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/11-9041.01","ceterms:codedNotation":"11-9041.01","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Biofuels/Biodiesel Technology and Product Development Managers"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Define, plan, or execute biofuels/biodiesel research programs that evaluate alternative feedstock and process technologies with near-term commercial potential."}},{"@type":"ceterms:CredentialAlignmentObject","ceterms:framework":"https://www.bls.gov/soc/","ceterms:targetNode":"https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/17-2081.00","ceterms:codedNotation":"17-2081.00","ceterms:frameworkName":{"en-US":"Standard Occupational Classification"},"ceterms:targetNodeName":{"en-US":"Environmental Engineers"},"ceterms:targetNodeDescription":{"en-US":"Research, design, plan, or perform engineering duties in the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental hazards using various engineering disciplines.
