This grant allowed individuals to achieve ServSafe Food Handler Certification by supplementing visual and hands-on content to accommodate the needs of the diverse population served by ACI.  The ACI Food Service Worker Training Program draws from existing successful ACI programs creating an opportunity for participants to explore numerous food service occupations through instruction, hands-on activities and experiential learning as follows:  \n\nFood Handler Certification - Participants earn the National Restaurant Association Food Handler Certification through in-class instruction, specific activities created to support the concepts included in the curriculum, tutoring, and practice testing to ensure success. There has been a 90% success rate for this program.  \n\nCommUnity Market - Participants receive the opportunity to sample grocery store/retail tasks such as stocking, cashiering, customer service, cleaning and maintenance and organizing in a real market that caters to food -insecure individuals in the community. The market also offers paid employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. \n\nMade With Love Catering provides delicious meals to local businesses for meetings and parties.  It is run by individuals with disabilities and offers experience in food preparation and presentation, serving, working on a team and more.  \n\nThroughout the experiential opportunities provided, participants receive a significant amount of related employment skills such as teamwork, conflict resolution, problem-solving, working with a supervisor, and flexibility,  We also offer practice in completing a job applications, a job interview, job seeking techniques.
