Successful completion results in the award of the Associate of Arts degree.\n\nThis major may be of particular interest to potential and current area vocational technical high school students as well as graduates of area vocational-technical high schools.\n\nWhile the major is designed for students beginning their collegiate work, students with fewer than sixty credits of collegiate work may enter the major after receiving permission from both an academic advisor and the Dean of the Department of Business Studies.\n\nGraduates of this program are able to:\n\n* analyze and appraise basic elements of entrepreneurship and business operations;\n* apply and use the common mathematical functions of business such as the time value of money and interest, discount and loan calculations;\n* record transactions under the accrual basis of accounting using the general journal/general ledger system and/or utilizing the appropriate computer application;\n* create business letters, memos, and analytical reports; and\n* prepare and deliver informative and persuasive speeches.\n\nThis major is primarily designed for job preparedness. Students who are considering transferring to a baccalaureate institution should be aware that decisions on transferability of courses are made by the baccalaureate institutions and differ from school to school.
