The course includes study of sterile products, hand washing, pharmaceutical calculations, references, parenteral compounding, and the proper use of equipment in the preparation of sterile products. The mastery of these skills is required to will ensure patient safety, and maintain product consistency.  The content of this course examines the current standards and best practice from USP-NF Chapter  and USP-NF Chapter  in parenteral compounding.  Hands-on training in sterile and non- sterile preparations, a major responsibility of the pharmacy technician and healthcare providers in hospitals, long-term care, and other healthcare facilities is integrated into  classroom instruction.     The combination of lecture and laboratory skills prepare the student using a hands-on industry approach as well as prepare the student to take the certification examinations. Students will take the PTCB examinations for both certifications upon successful completion of each course. The examination fees are included in the tuition.     Strong math skills are required. All students are required to take the TABE test prior to being accepted into this program. Basic skills course in MEDICAL MATH is available for an additional fee (See OL 432 Medical Math). Textbooks are available FOR LOAN from course instructor or at the Bookstore Paramus Campus for purchase.
